Whats is a KAD606-P/612 and do I need one in my video intercom setup

The KAD606-P/612 are video/audio distributors and provide power and network connectivity to the individual intercom components over a single ethernet cable.

The KAD606-P/612 also include two cascading LAN interfaces to connect to existing network infrastructure (ie switches, adsl/cable modems etc) to provide Internet connectivity if required.

You can also power the indoor stations and door stations using 12vdc (2 amp) power supplies.

Hikvision Intercom - Powering a Door Strike
Hikvision recommend to use a separate power source for the door strike. The main reason is a door strike may not function correctly due to a lack of power from the door station 12V DC output.

RECOMMENDED

Separate power source for door strike with typical power-to-lock wiring.

NOT RECOMMENDED

Typical power-to-lock wiring, using door station as power source.
